Lauren Karnes, CPRS - Lauren is a Forensic Peer Recovery Specialist II for the Maryland Office of the Public Defender in Baltimore County. As part of the defense team, she assists clients in connecting with treatment-based resources and navigating a newfound life of recovery while involved in the judicial system. Lauren identifies as a person in long-term recovery from co-occurring disorders and a survivor of domestic violence. Through her lived experience personally, and treatment-centered background professionally, she is able to offer an array of services to clients as well as advocate to the courts on their behalf. After learning how to sustain recovery in 2020, Lauren went on to work full-time for the treatment center that she once attended while also earning an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice at Cecil College. Her background includes case managing, admissions and intake coordinating, and clinically aiding in drug and alcohol treatment programs. Lauren continued her education through CCAR and obtained certification through the State of Maryland as a CPRS. She is currently in the process of becoming a state certified registered peer supervisor.
