This session will examine first responder safety and wellness as a critical component of both public health and public safety, highlighting its impact on individual responders, their colleagues, agencies, families, and the communities they serve. Participants will explore the foundational health and wellness training provided to first responders, including occupational risks such as injury, chronic stress, and trauma. The presentation will review current research on barriers and facilitators to accessing wellness services and supports, and demonstrate how investing in first responder wellness strengthens workforce resilience, enhances operational effectiveness, and improves public safety outcomes.
