Matthew Fader is Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Maryland. He joined the Court, then known as the Court of Appeals of Maryland, and was named Chief Judge in April 2022. Previously, he served on Maryland’s intermediate appellate court, now named the Appellate Court of Maryland, first as an Associate Judge beginning in 2017 and later as the Chief Judge beginning in 2018.
Before joining the bench, Chief Justice Fader served as a trial attorney in the Commercial Litigation Branch of the Civil Division at the United States Department of Justice beginning in 1999. He entered private practice in 2002 before joining the Maryland Office of the Attorney General's Civil Litigation Division as an assistant attorney general in 2010.
