Dr. Everett currently is the Director of Maryland Hospitals and Facilities in the Maryland Department of Health. There she leads 5 hospitals and 6 facilities that provide inpatient and residential services to adults and children with serious mental illnesses and/or developmental disorders. She served as the Director of the Center for Mental Health Services in the US, Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration from 2017 until April 2025. There she worked to bridge science to quality in services provision. Dr. Everett has long-term experience in the delivery and leadership of psychiatric services for persons with schizophrenia and other psychiatric conditions. At Johns Hopkins she was an Associate Professor and Section Chief of a full spectrum of community psychiatry programs at Johns Hopkins Community Psychiatry at Bayview. She held a joint appointment to the Bloomberg School of Public
Health. Dr. Everett is a past president of the American Psychiatric Association, the Maryland Psychiatric Society and the American Association of Community Psychiatrists. She has been recognized for her teaching as well as human rights advocate. She has received national commendation for her work in national healthcare reform and advocacy.
