About me
For over a decade, I have served as the Director of Community Living Policy and Programs at the Maryland Department of Disabilities which is charged with improving the services and supports for Marylanders with disabilities through cross-agency collaboration. One of my responsibilities at the Department is to manage the Ethan Saylor Alliance which is charged with preparing and supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to serve as trainers of law enforcement. We take a broader approach to this, however, and facilitate opportunities for law enforcement, people with disabilities, and the organizations that may support them to engage in activities that promote community safety. This can be achieved through formal classroom training, role-plays, and roundtable discussions. By supporting relationship development during nonenforcement activities, stigma reduces, understanding and trust increases and communities are safer.
